Indrani Nayar-Gall is a multimedia artist. Indrani acquired MFA from Visva Bharati University, and an Advance Graduate Certificate in contemporary safe printmaking from Rochester Institute of Technology. With a diploma in education from the University of West Indies, Indrani began her professional career in teaching and art practice in Barbados. After moving to the U.S., she taught part-time at universities and focused on her socially engaged art practice. Indrani’s interest working with film media started with short experimental pieces and grew into documentary film to bring greater visibility to the stories of misogyny and abuse of women and young girls. Devadasi_NOW, a hybrid-nonfiction short, was completed in late 2016, premiered in March 2017 and was screened in various festivals. String of Stories, her new narrative-style feature documentary, was completed in 2021. Premiering in HAAPIFEST-2022, it has been screened in 2022-Woman N Media Women’s Film Festival, 2022 Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (joint 1st prize winner of Flickers' International Humanitarian Award), 2022 Indian International Film Festival of Boston; upcoming Tasveer and DC South Asian Film Festival 2022, Multi Dimension Independent Film Festival 2022.
Indrani has participated in numerous exhibitions and her work appears in different publications.
