Congratulations to all of the women who directed feature films at the Sundance Film Festival!
The evolution of Film Fatales has resulted in a veritable force at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, where seven members have directed feature films premiering at the festival. These include the narrative features THE FAREWELL directed by Lulu Wang, HONEY BOY directed by Alma Ha'rel, HALA directed by Minhal Baig, and the documentaries KNOCK DOWN THE HOUSE directed by Rachel Lears, EDGE OF DEMOCRACY directed by Petra Costa, HAIL SATAN? directed by Penny Lane, and THE ADVOCATE directed by Rachel Leah Jones. Additionally, five Film Fatales members Alexandria Bombach, Alysa Nahmais, Amber Fares, Eva Vives and Violeta Ayala are fellows this year and several others directed shorts at the festival.
The annual Film Fatales reception this year was sponsored by the Utah Film Commission, Luna Bar, Goldthread, Tangerine Entertainment, and The Harnisch Foundation. With a continued strong presence at major cinematic events like Sundance, Film Fatales and its network of women directors are positioned to make an even greater impact on the film industry in the future. Film Fatales is also an affiliate partner of the Women at Sundance Celebration and co-hosted a filmmaker panel with Women in Media.
